If You Love Yourself Do You Need a Baby
Today my mother told me, once again maybe for the thirteenth time, to consider having a baby.
When I replied my justification, our (me and partner) justification for the thirteenth time, she said then consider adopting a child.
I replied I am open for adoption, in fact, I prefer that over having our own.
But then I asked her why do people have kids?
She was a little taken aback and answered hesitatingly because it is how existence works and propagates itself.
I wondered aloud, "Do people have kids to propagate existence's wish?"
She was again a little taken aback and replied, "Ask people! You always have weird questions"
I thought it is such a serious matter of almost life and death to me, why don't people ask or think about why before having babies?
Then she replied I will know the importance and significance of kids when I will have one. To which I replied I already had one on the date of my marriage.
She got a little confused.
I assured and assuaged her doubts by telling that I meant my wife is no less than a kid. So, I am quite happy having one kid for now!
She started laughing and when the laughter subsided she said she agrees!
Then I told her that people, who are young at heart and like a child within full of self-love, don't quite feel the need for another child even if they love children a lot (like me).
P.S. Maybe the real reason why we don't want kids is because we love them toooooo much and we are afraid we might not be good enough parents. That's why even after six years into marriage we are still trying to convince ourselves everynight before sleeping that we have now become good enough and hence we are prepared. But the next day in the morning, we are back to square one shrouded with self-doubt.
